Accounting & Tax

Accounting built around how e-commerce revenue actually flows.

For Amazon and e-commerce businesses, accounting is more than bank transactions. We bring sales, refunds, platform fees, advertising, payment providers and tax obligations together in one picture.

Who it's for

E-commerce accounting is different from traditional accounting.

Marketplace and online selling create their own money flow, with sales, refunds, fees and payouts arriving from different sources.

  1. 01

    Amazon sellers

Marketplace sales, refunds and fee movements.

  2. 02

    Direct-to-consumer stores

Tracking payment provider and bank flows.

  3. 03

    UK company owners

    Annual accounts and Corporation Tax.

  4. 04

    Multi-market sellers

    Organising currencies and sales channels.

Money flow

What you sell and what reaches your bank are not the same.

On marketplaces such as Amazon, the gross amount customers pay differs from the net payout transferred to your bank account.

Sales, refunds, platform fees and other movements each need to be classified correctly. Recording the payout as a single income line can misstate both your profit and your tax position.

Example: a marketplace payout
  1. Customer salesGross sales
  2. Refunds
  3. Marketplace feesCommissions and selling fees
  4. Advertising
  5. FBA / fulfilment fees
  6. Other adjustmentsReimbursements and adjustments
  7. Net payoutThe amount the marketplace transfers
  8. Bank account

United Kingdom

Core accounting processes for your UK company.

Company-law filings and tax returns are separate processes; we handle each on its own timetable.

  • 01

    Annual accounts

Preparing the company's annual financial accounts.

  • 02

    Corporation Tax / CT600

Computing the taxable result and preparing the CT600.

  • 03

    Confirmation statement

The annual confirmation of company details to Companies House — not a tax return.

  • 04

    Bookkeeping

Keeping income, expense and business transactions properly recorded.

  • 05

    Year-end preparation

Reviewing period-end entries and preparing for the financial statements.

  • 06

    Company compliance

Support with tracking the company's periodic obligations.

Annual processes

We cover year-end accounts and Corporation Tax, and US federal and state obligations, in detail on dedicated pages.

VAT

We review VAT alongside how you actually sell.

In marketplace selling, VAT outcomes can differ by sales model, stock location and fulfilment structure.

VAT obligations can vary with a company's structure, sales model, transaction volume and activities. Whether registration or filing is required is confirmed after an initial review.

  • VAT registration

Assessing whether registration is required, and the registration process.

  • VAT returns

    Preparing periodic VAT returns.

  • Marketplace sales

Treating Amazon and other marketplace sales correctly for VAT.

  • Input VAT

Recording VAT on purchases and expenses.

  • Output VAT

    Calculating VAT on sales.

  • Records & reconciliation

Keeping VAT records consistent with sales and bank data.

Frequently Asked Questions

About accounting and tax

See all questions
Are Amazon reports enough for accounting?

Amazon reports are important source data, but they are not accounting records on their own. Sales, refunds, fees and payouts need to be classified correctly and reconciled with bank movements and other documents.

Does a UK company have to file annual accounts every year?

Generally, limited companies registered in the UK must file annual accounts with Companies House every year. Simpler rules can apply to dormant companies; we clarify the requirements for your company's situation together.

What is the CT600?

The CT600 is the Company Tax Return that UK companies submit to HMRC. It is based on the company's results for the period and the related tax computations.

When is Corporation Tax paid?

The payment date depends on the company's accounting period and profit level. For many smaller companies, payment is due 9 months and 1 day after the end of the accounting period; instalment rules can apply to companies with higher profits.

Is VAT registration mandatory for every UK company?

No, it isn't mandatory for every company. Whether registration is required depends on taxable turnover, activities and company structure; voluntary registration is also possible in some cases. We clarify your situation in an initial review.

How are Amazon fees treated as expenses?

Commissions, FBA and storage fees and advertising spend are generally recorded as business expenses, but each transaction needs to be classified to the right account and assessed for tax according to its nature.

Why is my Amazon payout different from my sales?

Before paying out, Amazon deducts refunds, fees, advertising costs and other adjustments from your sales. That's why the net payout reaching your bank differs from gross sales — and both need to be reflected correctly in the accounts.

Which documents do I need to send for accounting?

Usually marketplace reports, bank and payment provider statements, invoices and expense documents, plus company information. The exact list depends on your business structure and sales channels.

Can you review my company's past accounting periods?

Yes. We can review past records to help identify gaps or items that need correcting. The scope is confirmed in an initial review, based on the state of the existing records.
